Imagine what it would feel like to have enough energy to get through your day. No mid afternoon slump or frazzled mood as you race home to cook dinner and deal with everyone else’s demands whilst trying desperately not to lose the plot. How good would that feel?
Now think about how great it would be if you could stop your expanding waistline from getting any bigger and how amazing you would feel if you actually managed to shrink it.

Time for some really basic science here. We all know that food fuels our body giving us the energy that we need each day to live. Even lying in bed all day requires calories for all the functions and processes to take place in your body to keep you alive. Anything else requires more energy. We also know that if you eat more calories than you need then the excess will be stored as fat.
Restricting calories too far reduces your metabolism and at the extreme puts your body into starvation mode. This is why so many diets don’t work as when you then start to eat properly again your body works to ensure that it has the energy it needs laying down more emergency supplies. You may then end up putting on the weight that you have lost and more besides.
It is time to take a different approach. This is what I call ‘Conscious Eating’. It is not about dieting or deprivation. It is thinking about the choices you are making and having the information readily available. It is about enabling you all to be able to make conscious choices and to be intentional in all that you do.
Conscious Eating is about you choosing to take the steps that will achieve your goals. What that might involve will depend on your age, circumstances, fitness goals and where you are starting from. It will also need to take into account what you need in order to succeed. You may have an iron will and all you need to do is to make a plan and then you will stick to it. For most that is a recipe for disaster. In my experience many of us need support, structure and a degree of accountability to make lasting changes.
